Building a hatch

The following set of pictures were taken aboard the Kempenaar Libra. It shows how to build a hatch on deck to enter a space below.

The intention was to create a simple hatch. It is practical, maybe not to fancy. There is no option to close it with a lock, but this can be done very quickly.

Positioning the hatch cover to see if it fits

Drawing the corners of the hatch

Combining the corners and you have the lines for your hatch

Burning in the metal. Below are still ribs, so the metal didn't fall

The only option, burning piece by piece till the whole is ready

Welding the four sides

Trying to put the hatch and see if the whole and sides fit

Welding the hinches of the hatch cover on the side of the whole, hatch finished.
